Radisson hotel, Rochester

For our 2018 Reunion we have chosen Rochester, New York as our site.  Western New York is a fascinating historical region where so many families from colonial New England began their westward migration, expanding the reach of the United States borders following the American Revolution.  Rochester is home to the the Strong National Museum of Play, Seneca Park Zoo, George Eastman Museum, Seabreeze Amusement Park, Rochester Museum and Science Center, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, Memorial Art Gallery, Finger Lakes Wine Country, National Susan B. Anthony Museum and House, Erie Canal Trail, and so much more.

Our host hotel is the Radisson Hotel Rochester Airport (175 Jefferson Road, Rochester, NY 14623 – 1-800-333-3333).  The hotel features free wi-fi, a full-service restaurant and lounge, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, and FREE Airport Shuttle service-- & Much more.  The hotel will be the site of both our Friday and Saturday night banquets.  Room rate for the Grinnell Family Association is $119.00 a night.  The banquets will be $38.00 a person each night.

The GFA is pleased to have D. Joshua Taylor as our Saturday night banquet speaker.  Taylor is a renowned genealogist who is featured on PBS’s Genealogy Road Show and is a dynamic keynote speaker throughout the United States.  Mr. Taylor will be presenting a talk entitled, “From New England to New York (and Beyond).”  This is an exceptional educational opportunity for our members.

In addition to our gathering at the banquets, this reunion will feature an opportunity for participants to travel back in time with a Saturday visit to the Genesee Country Village and Museum, located in nearby Monford, NY (about 20 minutes west from the hotel).  The Village, a living history museum, includes historic structures from around Western New York and is organized into distinct sections by time-period, such as: the Pioneer Settlement (1790-1830), the Center Village (1830-1860), and the Gas Light District (1860-1900).  Most of the buildings and facilities are handicap accessible and provides a free trolley that visitors can used to travel through the various sections of the village.  During our visit on Saturday, July 21, the village is hosting its annual Civil War Days which features battle reenactments on their grounds twice during the day.  Admission to the Genesee Village and Museum will be $19.00 and the GFA has arranged for round coach transportation for our participants from the hotel and the Village for $15.00 a person.

As many of you are aware, every five years we host our reunion in New England (usually in Mass and RI).  During those memorable reunions we are immersed in the Colonial and Early Republic heritage of our early Grinnell ancestors who came to North America and establish themselves with self-government and freedom of religion (and for some freedom from religion).  Rochester, New York offers to us an opportunity for our members to explore how our ancestors who migrated west from New England and pioneered the interior of North American during a period of the expanding borders of the United States.

Here's a quick chart to help you calculate some of your reunion costs. For each line, multiply the fee times the number of people, and place that subtotal in the Total column. Then, add all the items in the Total column to figure your costs (NOTE: A mailing will be going out with a registration form. This is just something to help you figure out roughly how much things will cost. Note, too that this does not include hotel charges):
