Welcome to the new Grinnell Family Association of America, Inc. website. This site has gone through a lot of changes over the last month or two, and we are pleased to present a completely redone website for our loyal visitors and members.
We're adding new content nearly every day. You will find most of it under the Blogs menu, where we have set up a number of interesting topics, and plan to add many more for your reading enjoyment. The Blogs area will eventually be a place for members of the GFA board and select individuals to submit their own articles for posting on the GFA website. More about this in a few weeks.
The forum will also be returning soon. I hope that this time, it will be a bridge to all the other Grinnell (Grinols, Grennell, Grenell, Grinold, etc.) descendants who have knowledge and are willing to share it with others. Before that is done, I need to configure things for the best possible security, mainly to prevent the bane of all websites, rampant spam. I'm still trying to decide the best way to give non-members privileges on the forum. More info will be posted when I figure out how to deal with this problem.
The photo gallery is back, and like the written content, we hope to add many more images to show the people behind the scenes, and other interesting Grinnells. Heck, maybe you or one of your ancestors may already be in one of the pictures. Check out the Gallery to find out.
We have added Newsfeeds to our list of features. Newsfeeds are summaries of postings on selected websites that let you quickly scan through a list so you can decide if you want to read on. We've added feeds from sources including the New York Times, Dick Eastman's genealogy website, the Family Search (LDS) website, and the New England Historic and Genealogical Society. You may find a really useful tip that you can use in your genealogical searches from these feeds.
All Grinnell Family Association-related content is under the "The GFA" menu. This includes the GFA history, GFA director contact information, reunion information, newsletters, the Grinnell genealogy book, the Grinnell history DVD, and plain old boring GFA business.
Interesting items and features about the Grinnell family are under the "The Grinnells" menu. These include general interest articles about the Grinnell family.
Membership access to our premium content is still a month or two away. Current GFA members will be receiving a new membership card with their personal login information, as well as instructions for logging on to the site. Among the premium content items are the entire GFA Newsletter library--all in the convenient PDF file format, and the linked Grinnell genealogy for both linked and unlinked family groups. Watch this space.
As I learn more about the capabilities of the computer program that runs this site, I hope to add even more features in the coming months. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas for the site.
. There's still a lot of work to be done to bring things back to where they were on the old site, but in the meantime, we've added much more public-access content to keep you interested while we continue the rebuilding process.
The GFA website ultimately belongs to each and every one of you and can only be as good as the content that is posted on it. I look forward to hearing from you.
