Winter 2011/2012 Newsletters on the Way! PDF Print E-mail

The GFA newsletter is finally on the way. With editor Marj Murray under the weather, I was asked to put something together. Well, it's finally together! Those who opted for receiving their newsletter by email should have already received them. The printer should get them out in the mail sometime during the week of March 12th. It's only four pages as it was put together in some degree of haste. Rest assured, the next one should be back to its full eight pages of newsy stuff of, by, and for the Grinnell (and variant spellings) family.

Grinnell Genealogical Mystery Solved! PDF Print E-mail

After goodness knows how many years, a great Grinnell mystery has been solved!

Back in the 1970s through the early 1980s, Ed W. (Medina) Grinnell, Richard W. Grinnell, Mable Grennell McMahon, and a “cast of thousands” researched and provided input of their family lineage for the first truly comprehensive Grinnell genealogy ever published. Past editions, including Emery’s volume Ancestry of the Grinnell Family (1931, Privately Printed), and even GFA founder Wiley B. Grinnell’s (GFA #1) book 500 Years of Grinnells published privately in the late 1970s only covered the descendants of Matthew Greenell’s son (known as Grenelle at the time) Daniel (1636-1709). It was only through additional research by a number of individuals that lines descending from Matthew’s other sons were discovered. First was Thomas’ (1630-?) progeny, if he had any. This could be a researcher’s bonanza someday. The other was Matthew Jr. (1630-1705).

Thanks to our intrepid team of GFA leaders, we have a presence on Facebook! If we can get a certain number of "likes," we will be able to get a more web-friendly URL. I think the number is 50 or 100.

Meanwhile, enjoy the little tidbits that Marj Murray and Kathy Asbury have been putting on the Facebook page.

The Grinnell Family Association of America Welcomes You PDF Print E-mail

Welcome to the new Grinnell Family Association of America, Inc. website. This site has gone through a lot of changes over the last month or two, and we are pleased to present a completely redone website for our loyal visitors and members.

We're adding new content nearly every day. You will find most of it under the Blogs menu, where we have set up a number of interesting topics, and plan to add many more for your reading enjoyment. The Blogs area will eventually be a place for members of the GFA board and select individuals to submit their own articles for posting on the GFA website. More about this in a few weeks.

The forum will also be returning soon. I hope that this time, it will be a bridge to all the other Grinnell (Grinols, Grennell, Grenell, Grinold, etc.) descendants who have knowledge and are willing to share it with others. Before that is done, I need to configure things for the best possible security, mainly to prevent the bane of all websites, rampant spam. I'm still trying to decide the best way to give non-members privileges on the forum. More info will be posted when I figure out how to deal with this problem.
